Belize Overview

Endless beauty, endless adventure...

Sprawled on the Caribbean coast, nestled between Mexico and Guatemala, Belize offers an intriguing mix of tropical forests rich with wildlife, majestic mountains, mysterious Mayan temples, and diving and fishing experiences beyond compare. In a single day, you can go from tropical forest to the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. The natural ecology and individual history varies from town to town, adding to the intrigue of Belize. So pack your bags, but keep it light... while Belize offers more than enough to keep you on the move (even if it's just to roll over on the beach), you will never have to move far thanks to its diverse and convenient geography. Hike or canoe under the shade of the rainforest canopy in the company of over 500 species of birds. Observe stalactites and stalagmites in caves that contain pottery and ceremonial remnants of the ancient Maya. Island hop by kayak between the cays or around one of Belize's three atolls. Witness a sunset from atop a Mayan temple Snorkel with the kids and learn about the biology of the barrier reef. Take a refreshing dip beneath one of the many spectacular waterfalls. Exchange vows with the crystal Caribbean Sea lapping at your feet. Swap stories back at your luxury resort after a day of wrestling with permit, tarpon and bonefish.

Belize Dining

Belize is one of the few beautiful countries in South America that borders the Pacific Ocean. Any couple looking for a great destination wedding and honeymoon experience complete with great food should definitely check out Belize; here you’ll enjoy traditional fare that will keep you grounded and delicious choices that you’d only find in the finest restaurants of Europe. You won’t have to go far to have a full dining experience, just walk out your door and enjoy yourself. It has to be said, you should stick near the resorts and the built up areas when exploring the culinary delights of Belize; if someone tries to get you to go off the beaten path for a certain restaurant don’t do it! Belize is great and safe, but some areas can be a little rough and it’s just not a good idea to wander off the beaten path here.

Belize Local Fare

Enjoying the local fare is a great way to enjoy Belize! The first thing to search out is anything made with Belize Habanero peppers; these pack a bite that you won’t find anywhere else, so be careful not to eat too much or you’re in for a rough few days. The local foods that you’ll find here are usually chicken and rice, with beans mixed in. While this might sound a little bland the way it is prepared is a great treat and you’ll never look and these three food staples the same way again; each restaurant will have its own special way of preparing it, so ask for the house special, or the casa plata.

Another thing to look out for are citrus plantations and all the other delicious fruits that are local, fresh and organic; if you’ve never had a fresh papaya stop by a local market and check it out! Make sure you also try out the decadent desserts made with real crème and fruit, but always make sure the fruit is cooked! Papusas are great for breakfast and you’ll find them in stalls along the streets or even among the finest restaurants in Belize. On every table in Belize you’ll find ceviche; it looks like salsa but it’s actually raw conch mixed with vegetables and it’s quite good!

Enjoy Real Belize Gourmet

Gourmet restaurants are out in surprising force in San Pedro, so make sure you try them! You’ll find the best restaurants within the resorts themselves; if you’re a guest of a resort you’ll eat free, but if you’re not you’ll have to pay. Most of it runs from gourmet a la carte meals that can run from French to Italian to Latin fusion that has some great new twists on meals you’ve had before. A lot of the restaurants also have unlimited drinks included with your all inclusive resort package, so be sure to take advantage of the house tequilas.

This is just a little taste of what you can get in Belize for your destination wedding and honeymoon, if you want to enjoy what it has to offer, you need to get out there every meal and see what you else you can try!

Belize Nightlife

Belize nightlife allows you to experience a variety of cultures that touch every part of the world, making it a truly international scene packed into a tiny nation. San Pedro is the hotspot for nightlife here, and you’ll want to get out there and explore; stick to the well-lit streets and party bars close to the resorts and casinos and you’ll have a great time. While you might not expect it from a party atmosphere, one of the best activities a couple can do on their Belize honeymoon is walking along the private resort beaches and staring up at the sky; here you won’t run into the usual light pollution you find back home and will be able to pick out stars you’ve never been able to see before. It’s a truly romantic experience that shouldn’t be missed!

Casinos in Belize

Dinner and a show are available at all the casinos, and here you’ll find some great Vegas style entertainment. From the bright and glitzy Princess Casino to the others that flitter along the edges like glittering jewels against the dark and water, you’ll find many different casino experiences. Each will have its ornate carpets and flashy games, hometown variations are found in the smaller ones on Texas Hold ’em and blackjack. Test your luck at the roulette tables and you might even find a little shuffleboard in the game rooms. The world is your oyster; you just have to bounce around to explore the beautiful casino nightlife of Belize.

Belize Clubs and Bar Scene

The clubbing and bar scene is vibrant and exciting; some of the best bars will be found attached to the resort hotels that are free if you’re a guest, and cost a little if you’re not. Here you can have colorful drinks and friendly faces, rubbing elbows with fellow travelers and locals alike. But you shouldn’t just go to the resort hotels to have fun at night, you need to get out on the streets to see what the bar scene is really like. There are many pub crawls that are guided by people who know the best places to go, and you’ll also get drinks included (but be sure to bring extra money in case you want to depart from the trail and just stay where you’re at) with the cost of the crawl. Pub crawls are a great way to enjoy yourself safely at night in Belize, and can be a great way to enjoy your bachelorette party!

Enjoy the Beauty of Belize

Nighttime in Belize isn’t just glitz and noise; if you’re looking for a quiet intimate time out you can go out and walk the soft powdery beaches. There are many prime spots where you can sit out under the stars and just look up at the sky. Most of the resort hotels have beach beds and places where you can rest comfortably with drinks and live music in the distance, all you have to do is show up!
